  • Information Technology Foundations

    This is the introductory course in the Information Technology: Arts and Communication cluster. It is designed to prepare students with work-related skills and advanced certification training in the Computer Support Specialist, Network Administration, or Web Design career paths. Content provides students with a synopsis of computer hardware, operating systems, network technologies, and HTML programming. Procedures used in this course will evaluate students in theory and practical applications through written, hands-on and computer based virtual simulations. Successful mastery of the course content will prepare students to concentrate in a focus area of their choosing. The computer support focus prepares students with skills in PC repair, diagnostics, and installation to obtain the IT industry standard, CompTIA’s A+ certification. The network administration focus introduces advanced topics in network design, management and security as defined by CompTIA’s Net+ or Cisco Systems CCNA certification. The Web designer focus guides students through fundamental, intermediate, and advanced skills in the development of full featured web sites using HTML, DHTML, XML, and other common markup languages in preparation for the CIW certification.

  • WEB SITE I - FOUNDATIONS isthe first level of Web Page Design, and it prepares students with work-relatedskills for advancement into postsecondary education or industry. Course content includes exposure to basic Webdesign and the dynamics of networking/internetworking, Web hosting and Webdesign in e-commerce. The course contentprovides students the opportunity to acquire fundamental skills in both theoryand practical application of Web design and of leadership and interpersonalskill development. Laboratory facilitiesand experiences simulate those found in the Web Page Design and constructionindustry.
  • Web Page Design II – SiteDesigner is the second level of Web Page Designconcentration, and it prepares students with work-related skills foradvancement into postsecondary education or industry. Course content includes exposure to basic andadvanced Web design, pixilated and vector-based Web graphics, Web animations,dynamics of Web hosting, and Web design in eCommerce. The course content provides students theopportunity to acquire fundamental skills in both theory and practicalapplication of Web design and of leadership and interpersonal skilldevelopment. Laboratory facilities andexperiences simulate those found in the Web page design and Web page constructionindustry. Further, this course providesfor and directly maps to the Certified Internet Webmaster “Site Designer”national certification examination.

  • WEBPAGE DESIGN III - eCommerce corresponds to the CIW certification “Web eCommerce” which is the third level of Web PageDesign. This course prepares studentswith work-related skills for advancement into postsecondary education orindustry. Course content includesexposure to Web design in eCommerce with marketing, customer relations, andcommercial Web site publication. Thecourse content provides students the opportunity to acquire fundamental skillsin practical application of Web development, leadership, and interpersonalskill development. Laboratory facilitiesand experiences simulate those found in the Web page design and Web pageconstruction industry.

  • Visual Art Communications is a course that provides a foundation in aesthetic concepts andapplies these concepts to the visual art, design, printing, and photographyindustries. Course content provides theopportunity to acquire marketable skills by examining both the visualcommunications industry and its career opportunities and by developingleadership, teamwork, and technical skills. Varying degrees of aesthetics are required, along with the ability tointerpret many aspects of life and technology. Course content is also related to other pathways. Art and Applied Art relates to PerformingArts; Graphic Design relates to Printing Technologies; and Photographic Artrelates to Printing Technologies, Journalism, Broadcasting, and Film.
